Track and Field Starts Indoor Season at Armory Collegiate Distance Carnival
Purple Knights post three first-place finishes and four PRs.
NEW YORK, N.Y. – Competing for the first time this indoor season, the University of Bridgeport's men's and women's track and field teams posted numerous PRs and standout performances at Friday's Armory Collegiate Distance Carnival at the Nike Track & Field Center in New York City.
MEN'S RECAP
Freshman Kamal Abdul-Aziz impressed in his collegiate debut, placing third in both the 60-meter dash (7.08) and 200-meter dash (22.33). The Binghamton, N.Y. native finished first amongst non-DI runners in both events.
Fellow freshman Sunil Peters followed closely behind in each sprint, finishing fifth in the 60m (7.15) and sixth in the 200m (22.94).
In the distance events, sophomore Edoardo Vandelli turned in a strong effort with a seventh-place finish in the mile, clocking a personal-best 4:28.73.
Toby Middleton added a solid showing of his own, placing 13th in the 5,000m with a time of 15:53.64.
The field events brought UB's lone victory of the day, as junior Nick Migliarese won the weight throw behind a personal-best 12.46m performance.
WOMEN'S RECAP
Graduate student Fiona Richards piloted the UB women during her Purple Knight debut. The Virginia Tech transfer won both of her events, taking the shot put with a 13.52m throw before adding another victory in the weight throw at 16.44m.
Fellow graduate student Kara Sampath contributed a solid sprint performance, placing 10th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.72.
In the distance events, senior Julia Fortune delivered a seventh-place finish in the 3,000m, crossing the line in 11:48.94.
Sophomore Stephanie Lickteig rounded out UB's results with a 14th-place showing in the 5,000m. She clocked a PR time of 19:58.36.

The Purple Knights will compete at SCSU's Art Kadish Elm City Challenge next Friday (Dec. 12) in New Haven.
