Track and Fields Squads Finish Indoor Season at NEICAAA Championships
Fiona Richards leads the way with a title in the shot put.
BOSTON, Mass. – Competing for the final time this indoor season, the University of Bridgeport's track and field programs each placed inside the top 20 in their first-ever NEICAAA Championship this weekend (March 6-7) at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
Women's Recap (14th Place)
UB was led by pair of point-producing performances from Fiona Richards and Emma Pastorelli over the weekend.
After placing ninth in the weight throw on Friday, Richards returned to capture the championship in the shot put on Saturday with a mark of 13.46m, topping a competitive field that featured 19 Division I throwers.
Pastorelli also contributed to the Purple Knights' scoring effort, finishing sixth in the pentathlon on Friday with a total of 2,631 points. Her strongest event came in the shot put, where she placed fifth with a throw of 8.31m.
Elsewhere for Bridgeport, Abety Kivagheni recorded a 20th-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.60m, while Stephanie Lickteig also placed 20th in the 5K crossing the line in 20:15.08.
Men's Recap (20th Place)
On the men's side, the Purple Knights earned their points behind strong efforts from Edoardo Vandelli and the 4x400 relay team.
Vandelli advanced out of the 800m preliminaries on Friday with a second-place finish in 1:54.20 before placing seventh in Saturday's final.
Later in the meet, the relay quartet of Sunil Peters, Vandelli, Damian Coles and Darreyle Simpson also contributed with a seventh-place finish in the 4x400 relay, crossing the line in 3:47.43.
Elsewhere for Bridgeport, Simpson recorded a 12th-place finish in the high jump with a clearance of 1.86m. Kamal Abdul-Aziz placed 12th in the 200m (22.49) and 14th in the 60m (7.10), while Jeremy Choi finished 24th in the weight throw with a mark of 12.69m.
