Softball Earns Two Weekly ECC Awards
Tiffany Irrera named Conference Pitcher of the Week And Meghan O'Leary Selected As The League's Rookie of the Week.
Central Islip, N.Y.-Two members of the University of Bridgeport softball team have earned weekly East Coast Conference honors for their outstanding play in games played form March 24 through 30, 2014. Senior pitcher Tiffany Irrera (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week, and freshman shortstop Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) was chosen the league's Rookie of the Week.
Irrera helped the Purple Knights post a perfect week figuring in all five victories with four saves and one win. In 11.2 innings pitched on the week, she posted a 0.60 ERA, struck out 18 and did not issue a base on balls. So far in 2014, Tiffany has allowed only one walk in 46.2 innings pitched.
O'Leary was a terror at the plate helping UB go 5-0 on the week, as she posted a .667 batting average (6-of-9) with two home runs, six RBI, and four runs scored. She also notched a .727 on-base percentage and produced a 1.444 slugging percentage on the week.
UB's Katelyn Wall (Jr., Madison, Conn.) was also named to the ECC Honor Roll for her fine play last week.
