Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team opened its 2015 East Coast Conference schedule at LIU Post University on Wednesday afternoon, and the Purple Knights dropped both ends of the doubleheader falling, 7-4, in game one and , 2-0, in game two. UB is now 4-12 overall and 0-2 in the ECC. LIUP is now 11-6 overall and 7-9 in conference play.
In the opener, the Purple Knights battled back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game 4-4 after the top of the fifth innings, but the host Pioneers plated one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to claim the victory.
Senior Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.), junior Paige Owens (Berlin, Conn.) and sophomore Ashley Hessler (Pawtucket, R.I.) each had two hits for UB in game one. Wall also knocked in a pair of runs in the opener.
In game two, sophomore Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.) pitched well but took the loss despite limiting the Pioneers to on five hits during her complete game performance.
The Purple Knights are right back in action at Molloy College on Thursday afternoon.
