Shirley, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team lost both ends of a road East Coast Conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Dowling College on Long Island, losing game one, 14-2 in five innings and dropping game two, 4-3, in game that was halted by rain with one out in the top of the seventh inning. UB is now 11-31 overall and 5-21 in conference play. Dowling is now 17-26 overall and 9-16 in the ECC.
In game one, senior Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) and sophomore Tara Faford (Grafton, Mass.) drove in runs for the Purple Knights.
In game two, UB held a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before the host Golden Lions plated single runs in the fifth and sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead before the rains came with one out in the top of seventh inning to force the game to be stopped, and the hosts to take a one-run victory.
In the nightcap, junior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) had two doubles and two runs batted in, and Tara Faford had the other RBI to give her two on the afternoon.
Up next, the UB softball team will host St. Thomas Aquinas in an ECC doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Saturday will also be Senior Day in Seaside Park with the team's five seniors being honored between games.
