Strong Bullpen And Timely Hitting Propels UB Softball To Season-Ending Home Sweep Over Nyack

Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport softball team used outstanding relief pitching and timely hitting to close out its 2015 season in fine style with a home doubleheader sweep of the visiting Nyack College Warriors on Tuesday afternoon in Seaside Park, winning game one, 5-3, and completing the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.  The Purple Knights, who won four of their last six games, finished the season at 15-33 overall.  Nyack finishes its year at 12-32.

In the opener, senior Katelyn Wall (Madison, Conn.) drove in two runs with two outs on a line dive single to left in the bottom of sixth inning to give UB a 5-3 lead.  Junior Imane Alou Issa (Berchem, Belgium) drove in Bridgeport's other three runs in game one with a two-RBI triple and a single in the sixth inning.

Senior Taylor Hendrickson (Binghamton, N.Y.) earned the win in the pitching circle in game one to finish her final year in a UB uniform at 4-4, as she worked two hitless and scoreless innings of relief during which she struck out four batters.

In game two, the Purple Knights trailed 2-0 heading to the bottom of the third inning in which they would score all three of their runs on a single by senior Jessica Griesinger (Brewster, N.Y.) and a two-run homer by Katelyn Wall to centerfield.  Wall finished 2015 with a team-high seven home runs and a team best 27 runs batted in.

Sophomore Meghan O'Leary (Lafayette, N.J.) also chipped in two hits for Bridgeport in the second game.

Junior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) notched the win in the nightcap, as she was dominant in five scoreless relief innings, allowing only two hits while striking out eight.
