Shirley, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team split an East Coast Conference doubleheader at Dowling College on Saturday afternoon winning game one, 2-1, and falling in game two, 1-0. In the opener, the Purple Knights got runs batted in from senior Kaila Crandall (Little Rock, Calif.) and freshman Kamryn Beach (Tampa, Fla.) to back the outstanding pitching of junior Alyssa Bua (Cornwall, N.Y.), who raised her season mark to 3-5, by firing her fourth straight complete game in which she allowed seven hits with one run; while striking out four and allowing three bases on balls.
In game two, Crandall added two more hits, and junior Kaitlyn Lajoie (Vernon, Conn.) was the hard luck loser in the pitching circle, as she went the distance allowing only one run on four hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
