Three Purple Knights Earn Weekly ECC Awards
Softball's Alyssa Bua And Women's Lacrosse's Courtney Forry And Megan Carney Earn East Coast Conference Accolades
Central Islip, N.Y.-Three University of Bridgeport student-athletes have been selected as recipients of weekly East Coast Conference awards for their outstanding play in games that took place from March 28 through April 3, 2016.
Junior Alyssa Bua (Cornwall. N.Y.) was selected as the ECC Softball Pitcher of the Week, and from the UB women's lacrosse team, freshman Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) was named ECC Player of the Week and senior Megan Carney (Norwalk, Conn.) was chosen as ECC Defensive Player of the Week.
Bua was outstanding in the pitching circle last week for the University of Bridgeport, going 2-0 with an 0.82 ERA. In 17 innings pitched last week, Alyssa fanned 16 batters and allowed only two earned runs. She fired two complete games, with 10-inning game in a 4-3 win over Molloy and a 2-1 win at Dowling. Bua, who has pitched four straight complete games, leads UB in wins with three so far this season.
Forry, who leads Bridgeport so far this season with 22 goals, was right on target all week scoring a total 11 goals on 12 shots in wins for the Purple Knights. She also chipped four assists for a total of 15 points on the week. She scored at least seven points in each of her two games. Against Felician she totaled eight with four goals and four assists and against Dominican, she found the back of the cage seven times.
Carney allowed only three goals in two games (1.50 goals against average) in two UB wins last week. Her best game came in a 10-save performance in Thursday's win over Dominican (N.Y.) College in which she allowed only two goals. On the week, Carney finished with an .800 save percentage with 12 total saves.
