West Babylon, N.Y.-A pair of University of Bridgeport softball players earned weekly East Coast Conference award this week for their outstanding play in games that took place from March 12-18, 2018, as sophomore Allison Luzzi (East Haven, Conn.) was selected as the ECC Player of the Week and senior Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) earned ECC Pitcher of the Week accolades.
Luzzi was red-hot at the plate for UB last week, posting a .481 batting average (13-of-27) with one home run and nine runs batted in. Allison finished the eight games on the week with a .852 slugging percentage and .533 on-base percentage. She also scored four runs, stole a base and added a double and a triple. Staheli excelled in the pitching circle for the Purple Knights as they closed out their Spring Trip to Florida last week. She made four appearances (three starts) in which she posted a 3-1 record with a tiny 0.84 ERA. In her three starts, she worked three complete games, as she tossed 25.0 innings on the week. In those 25 innings pitched, she struck out 25 batters while allowing only 17 hits and five bases on balls.
