Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport softball team punched its ticket to the 2018 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament of Thursday afternoon with two hard-fought, victories at St. Thomas Aquinas College , as UB won game one, 6-5 in eight innings, and completed the sweep with a 4-3 victory in game two. With the two victories, Bridgeport is now 24-22 overall and an even 11-11 in conference play. STAC falls to 12-30 overall and 7-15 in the ECC.
In the opener, the Purple Knights trailed 4-0 after the first inning, but UB battled back to grab the win in extra innings.
Freshmen Elyssa Marmolejo (Rialto, Calif.) and Kaira Ramon (Stamford, Conn.), plus sophomore Samantha Sabor (Plainfield, Ill.) each had two hits and one RBI, as senior Amanda Staheli (Pecatonica, Ill.) earned win number 13 of the season, as she pitched and eighth inning complete game, in which she allowed only two earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Sabor chipped in three more hits for the winners, and Ramon had two hits and two runs batted in.
Sophomore Ashley Eisnor (Medford, Mass.) notched her eighth win of 2018 in game two, as she pitched a complete game in which she allowed five hits and one earned run.
Up next, the UB softball team is scheduled to play a non-conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at home versus Goldey-Beacom. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
