UB Softballers Sweep Weekly ECC Honors
Meg McFarland, Kaite Burawski And Madison D'Amato Recognized For Their Outstanding Play Last Week
West Babylon, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport swept this week's East Coast Conference softball awards, as junior Meg McFarland (Monroe, Conn.) earned ECC Player of the Week honors, classmate Kaite Burawski (Hartley, Del.) picked up her second straight conference Pitcher of the Week award and freshman Madison D'Amato (Warwick, R.I.) was named East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week; all for their fine play in games that took place from February 28 through March 6, 2022.
McFarland was outstanding last week, helping the Purple Knights head back North from the annual Spring Trip with a 9-4 overall record, as she batted .423 last week with a .483 on-base percentage. On the week, she scored four runs, had four runs batted, and stole three bases. McFarland also capped off Bridgeport's 5-4 comeback win over St. Rose in their final game in the Sunshine State when she drove in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. So far this season, Meg is batting .390.
Burawski fired a no-hitter last week versus USciences in which she faced the minimum number of 21 batters. She struck out 18 batters, including the final 15 hitters she faced, without issuing a walk. The Devils' only base runner reached on a first inning error and was eliminated on a double play. Kaite posted a 4-1 record on the week working 27.1 innings in which she fanned 54 batters while allowing on five bases on balls. She far in 2022, she has posted a 6-2 record with a 1.64 ERA, working 51.1 innings pitched with a whopping 102 strikeouts which works out to an average of 13.9 K's per game which is one of the top's in the nation in that category.
D'Amato was a spark plug for the UB offense from the lead-off spot in the order last week batting .480 with an on-base percentage of .567 and a slugging percentage of .640 in eight games. On the week, Madison also scored nine runs, had four doubles and one RBI. Her best performance of the week came in a 5-4 comeback victory over St. Rose, as she went 4-for-4 at the plate, reached base all five times in the game, and scored a pair of runs. So far in 2022, D'Amato has posted a .405 batting average.
