Postseason Honors Continue To Roll In For Softball's Mya Jones And Gabby Simms
Duo Named First Team All-East Region By D2CAA
Bridgeport, Conn.-The postseason honors keep rolling in for a pair of University of Bridgeport softball standouts in freshman, third baseman Mya Jones (Milford, Del.) and graduate student, outfielder Gabby Simms (Phoenixville, Pa.), as one week after being named First Team All-East Region (Jones) and Second Team All-Region (Simms) by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the duo have also been selected to the 2023 First Team NCAA Division II Conference Commissioners' Association (D2CAA) All-East Squad at those same positions by the Sports Information Directors from the regions' three conferences.
This season, Jones burst onto the collegiate scene leading UB in batting average at .439, home runs with seven home runs and a whopping 52 runs batted in during her 47 games played. Mya slugged an impressive .671 and finished the year with a .488 on base percentage. She was selected as the NFCA's National Player of the Week on April 25, 2023.
A transfer from USciences, Simms starred in her only season in Purple Knights' uniform as she batted .424 in 53 games played with 37 runs batted in and a sky-high and team-leading on base percentage of .495. She also was named to the All-Tournament Team at this year's CACC Softball Championship.
