LAKEWOOD, N.J. – Playing their third straight conference doubleheader, the University of Bridgeport's softball team earned a pair of wins at Georgian Court on Saturday. The sweep improves the Purple Knights' record to 15-7 overall this season and 5-1 in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 7, Georgian Court 1
A five-run first inning in the opener set the tone for UB on the afternoon. Samantha Ledger provided most of the fireworks with a one-out grand slam.
Ledger's first career home run supplied a 5-0 lead for the home squad.
In addition to Ledger's blast, UB's top of the order was dominant in the first game of the day.
Bridgeport's first three batters of Madison D'Amato, Sydnee Perreault and Mya Jones all had two hits apiece and combined for five runs scored and four walks.
D'Amato reached base five times in the game and currently leads the CACC in on-base percentage (.558), runs scored (32), batting average (.457) and walks (14) this season.
Kaite Burawski picked up her ninth win in the circle with another masterful outing. The left-hander struck out 13 Lions, allowed just one run and scattered three hits en route to her 10th complete game of the season.
Burawski leads the CACC in strikeouts (100) this season while holding an ERA of 1.87 in 74.2 innings pitched.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 10, Georgian Court 2 (5 Inn.)
UB's momentum continued with eight runs in the first three innings of game two.
Bridgeport's attack was highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Emily Chase in the third inning while Paityn Thibodeaux launched her first career home run in the second.
D'Amato and Mya Jones also knocked two-run doubles in Bridgeport's massive third inning.
All in all, the Purple Knights' offense finished with 11 hits (4 2Bs, HR) and 10 RBIs in the finale.
UB's starting pitcher Vise Zarate cruised along with the big lead. The right-hander allowed just two hits and four hits across five innings of work.
