Softball Remains Sixth in Final Set of NCAA Regional Rankings
Purple Knights own the third most wins in the region.; Top eight teams make the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – On the eve of the CACC Championship Tournament, which will take place at Seaside Park over the next three days, the University of Bridgeport's softball team was slotted sixth in the NCAA's final set of regional rankings released on Wednesday. The Purple Knights were also put sixth in last week's set of rankings. The top-eight teams in the east will earn bids into the 2025 NCAA Tournament.
Bridgeport, which entered the NFCA's National Coaches Poll on Tuesday at No. 25, currently holds a 33-12 overall record. With conference tournaments set to wrap up this weekend, UB currently possesses the third most wins in the region. They also have the second fewest losses.
The Purple Knights, who won the CACC regular-season title for the first time, have won 22 of their last 27 contests. They finished 19-3 in the conference this season, defeating CACC foes by an average of 6.1 runs per game.
UB's superb campaign features a marvelous balance between offense, defense and pitching. The Purple Knights lead the CACC in runs per game, slugging percentage and on-base percentage in addition to ranking No. 1 in team ERA, strikeouts and batting average against.
Dawn Stearns, the CACC's 2025 Coach of the Year, has guided UB to the No. 1 seed in the upcoming double-elimination portion of the conference tournament.
Stearns has been assisted by the terrific performances of five CACC All-Conference honorees that were announced earlier this week. Graduate Student Kaite Burawski was named the conference's Pitcher of the Year while Mya Jones, Madison D'Amato, Angela Oros and Sydnee Perreault were all recognized for standout campaigns.
The top-seeded Purple Knights are now set for a matchup against fourth-seeded Jefferson on Thursday at 11 a.m. The winner will advance to Friday while the loser will play an elimination game against either Wilmington (No. 2 seed) or Goldey-Beacom (No. 3 seed) on Thursday at 4 p.m.
