BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Back in the Dance! For the second straight season and fourth time since 2020, the University of Bridgeport's softball team has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament. This time, the Purple Knights are the No. 6 seed in the NCAA East Regional to be held at Goldey-Beacom College on May 8-10.
Bridgeport has been rewarded for a superb 2025 campaign that features a 33-14 overall regular, a CACC regular-season championship (19-3) and the program's first national ranking in recent memory. Additionally, the Purple Knights posted a 27-9 in-region record which includes wins over all three of the teams (Wilmington, Goldey-Beacom, SNHU) that will join UB at the regional this weekend.
Coach Stearns' squad now prepares for a first-round matchup against third-seeded Goldey-Beacom on Thursday (1:30 p.m.). UB will be seeking revenge after the Lightning eliminated the Purple Knights in the CACC Tournament just four days ago.
Bridgeport's year has been set in motion by extraordinary balance. In fact, UB boasts the second-lowest ERA (2.31) in the east region in addition to having the second-highest slugging percentage (.454) and on-base percentage (.394) in the region as well.
Amonst a litany of great performers this season, the Purple Knights have been led by five CACC All-Conference selections in the form of Kaite Burawski, Mya Jones, Madison D'Amato, Angela Oros and Sydnee Perreault.
Burawski was selected as the CACC's Pitcher of the Year while Jones joined her on the All-Conference First Team. Additionally, Oros, D'Amato and Perreault were all tabbed as second-team selections.
In addition to the student-athletes recognized, UB's leader in the dugout, Dawn Stearns, was named the 2025 CACC Coach of the Year. She has now led the Purple Knights to five NCAA selections in addition to a total of 331 victories in her career.
A full preview of the Purple Knights heading to the 2025 NCAA East Regional will be posted to UBKnights.com later this week.
