Game 2
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Playing their first games of the 2026 campaign, the University of Bridgeport's softball team swept a doubleheader against Davenport University on Friday at the Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Fla. The Purple Knights' 3-2 and 5-1 victories push their record to 2-0 for the first time since 2021.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 3, Davenport 2 (8 Innings)
The Purple Knights opened their season in dramatic fashion, walking it off in extra innings to secure a one-run victory. Deadlocked at 2-2 through seven, the Purple Knights quickly seized control in the bottom of the eighth, loading the bases with no outs to set the stage for the heroics.
McKenzie Morgan delivered the decisive moment, hammering a single to right field that saw Genna D'Amato race home with the game-winning run.
UB had struck first in the opening inning when Sydnee Perreault reached on an error, advanced on a single by Mya Jones and later scored on a passed ball.
After Davenport evened the score, the Purple Knights regained a 2-1 edge in the fourth as Isabella Benjamin ripped a two-out RBI double, scoring Morgan all the way from first base.
Benjamin added a single earlier in the game as well.
In the circle, Vise Zarate was outstanding, tossing all eight innings while allowing just two runs. She struck out five, walked only two and notched her 56th career complete game.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 5, Davenport 1
The Purple Knights carried their momentum into the finale, securing a decisive game-two win over the Panthers.
UB wasted little time getting on the board, plating two runs in the opening frame. Back-to-back singles from Perreault and D'Amato set the tone, with Perreault eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by Benjamin before D'Amato came home on a double steal to make it 2-0.
After Davenport answered with an unearned run in the bottom half of the first, UB responded in the third. Jones notched her first RBI of the season when her two-out single to center once again plated Perreault.
The Purple Knights added more insurance in the fifth inning when Melanie Martin singled and Perreault was hit by a pitch to put two aboard. D'Amato delivered the big blow, ripping a single to left that brought home both runners, giving Bridgeport a four-run cushion.
Perreault scored three times in the game and swiped two bases, while D'Amato finished 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to lead an eight-hit attack.
In the circle, Samantha Ledger was terrific, tossing a complete-game three-hitter. She allowed just one unearned run, struck out four and walked three over seven strong innings to earn the win.
