GAME ONE – Bridgeport 3, Cedarville 0
It was another superb outing from senior Vise Zarate that catapulted UB in the opener. The right hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and striking out three.
Following five scoreless innings, the Purple Knights' offense came alive in the sixth. Four singles, a sac bunt and a walk yielded three runs for UB.
Nathalie Mongrain and Sienna Lucas both tallied RBI hits in the sixth while Paityn Thibodeaux and Sydnee Perreault also notched singles in the inning.
Lucas added a double in the fourth to secure her first career multi-hit game. Sophia Philippou also notched her first multi-hit effort with a 2-for-2 performance.
Philippou earned a walk as well to reach base three times in the victory.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 9, Walsh 6 (Eight Innings)
Following a low-scoring opener, UB's offense erupted with season highs in both runs and hits (13) in the finale. The win marked the Purple Knights' second extra-inning triumph of the young season and improved their record to 4-2.
After Walsh rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 5-5, Bridgeport responded with a decisive four-run eighth inning.
Perreault and McKenzie Morgan delivered RBI singles in the frame before Thibodeaux broke it open with a two-run triple to right field. Thibodeaux also doubled home two runs in the fifth and finished a dominant 4-for-5 with four RBIs and both a double and triple.
The Purple Knights struck first in the opening inning when Genna D'Amato singled home Perreault, and they added two more in the fifth on Thibodeaux's two-run double.
In the sixth, Mya Jones came through with a two-run single to extend the lead to 5-2 before Walsh forced extras with its late surge.
Jones finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Morgan scored twice and drove in a run as part of UB's balanced attack.
In the circle, Samantha Ledger worked six solid innings, allowing just two runs, before Zarate earned the win in relief to move to 3-1 on the season.
