MELBOURNE, Fla. – On the final day of their 14-game trip to Florida, the University of Bridgeport's softball team recorded another split on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights defeated Bentley University, 3-2, after dropping a 7-0 matchup to Ursuline College. UB will return to Connecticut with a 9-5 record to start the 2026 campaign.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 3, Bentley 2
Right-hander Vise Zarate was once again superb in her seventh start of the year, allowing just two runs on three hits across all seven innings. The California native scattered four walks while inducing 13 ground-ball outs to earn the victory and improve to 6-2 this season with a 2.12 ERA over 43.0 innings of work.
UB supplied just enough offense to support the strong pitching effort. The Purple Knights opened the scoring in the first inning when Mya Jones brought home Nathalie Mongrain with an RBI groundout.
UB regained the lead in the fourth as Paityn Thibodeaux delivered an RBI single to center that plated McKenzie Morgan, and the Purple Knights added an insurance run in the fifth when Morgan singled to score Breanna Pelaez.
Pelaez paced the Bridgeport offense with a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate, including a double and a run scored, while Morgan and Thibodeaux each recorded an RBI.
Zarate then closed the door in the seventh, stranding the potential tying run to secure the narrow victory.
GAME ONE – Ursuline 7, Bridgeport 0
The Purple Knights' offense was limited to just two hits and four walks in the first contest of the day.
Sophia Philippou and Sienna Lucas accounted for the team's lone hits with singles in the third and sixth innings, while Lucas also drew a walk to reach base twice.
Ursuline built an early lead with two runs in the first and three more in the second before adding a pair in the fifth.
In the circle, Samantha Ledger provided a solid relief effort, allowing just two runs over 4.1 innings while striking out one.
