ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Continuing a stretch of three doubleheaders over a five-day stretch, the University of Bridgeport's softball team (15-11, 1-1 CACC) split a pair of non-conference contests at Molloy on Thursday. UB opened the day with an 11-7 win before falling in the finale by a score of 4-3.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 11, Molloy 7
The Purple Knights matched their season-high run total in the opener, powered by an offensive attack that produced a season-best 14 hits.
UB wasted no time setting the tone, scoring in six different innings and plating multiple runs in four of those frames.
Leading the charge was Sydnee Perreault, who delivered a dominant 4-for-5 performance that included a home run, a triple and four RBIs.
She jumpstarted the offense with a solo homer in the first and added a two-run triple in the second.
Bridgeport continued to pile on throughout the middle innings, with Mya Jones (2-for-4, RBI), Paityn Thibodeaux (3-for-4, two RBIs), and Genna D'Amato (2-for-4, RBI) all contributing key hits.
In the circle, Samantha Sponder earned the win in relief, tossing 3.2 innings while allowing just two runs to stabilize the game down the stretch.
GAME TWO – Molloy 4, Bridgeport 3
After the season-high offensive output in the opener, the Purple Knights were held to just five hits in a one-run loss in the finale.
The Purple Knights struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double from Thibodeaux.
Sophia Philippou provided the biggest highlight for UB, blasting her first career home run in the second inning to even the score at 2-2.
Bridgeport later reclaimed a 3-2 advantage in the fourth, capitalizing on a Molloy error, but could not generate enough offense to hold on.
UB managed just five hits in the contest, with Isabella Benjamin, D'Amato, Breanna Pelaez, and Thibodeaux each recording one alongside Philippou's home run.
