BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing their second CACC doubleheader of the season, the University of Bridgeport's softball team posted a pair of wins against Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday. The Purple Knights' home sweep improves their record to 17-11 overall this season, including 3-1 in conference play.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 6, Goldey-Beacom 5
Locked in a 5-5 tie entering the bottom of the sixth, the Purple Knights delivered when it mattered most.
With two outs, Sydnee Perreault sparked the rally with a double, and Genna D'Amato followed by ripping an RBI single to bring her home with what proved to be the game-winning run.
UB showed resilience throughout, overcoming an early deficit before taking their first lead of the game in the fifth inning.
UB finished with eight hits in the contest, with Perreault and D'Amato each leading the way with two hits apiece, while D'Amato drove in a team-high two runs.
In the circle, Vise Zarate earned the complete-game victory, allowing just two earned runs while striking out a career-high nine over seven innings of work.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 7, Goldey-Beacom 4
The Purple Knights set the tone in the bottom of the second, erupting for four runs on five hits to seize control of the game.
RBI singles from Maerin Lyon, Perreault and D'Amato—who drove in a pair—highlighted the big inning as UB quickly built a 4-0 advantage.
Bridgeport continued to apply pressure, adding two more runs in the fourth and another in the fifth while piling up 11 hits as a team.
Perreault led the offensive charge with a 3-for-4 performance, including two RBIs and two runs scored, while D'Amato finished with a team-high three RBIs.
In the circle, Samantha Ledger was outstanding, tossing a complete game while allowing just two earned runs on two hits and striking out four. The right-hander improved to 7-2 on the season with the victory.
