Softball's Jones Earns Spot on NFCA Player of the Year Watchlist
Currently batting a team-best .403 with 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Currently amid another stellar season, senior Mya Jones of the University of Bridgeport's softball team has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Player of the Year watchlist. She is one of just 14 players from the East region tabbed to the national watchlist.
Jones leads the Purple Knights this season with a .403 batting average to go along with 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Her production has only surged in recent weeks, as she is hitting an impressive .426 across 26 games in the month of March. Jones has hit six doubles and two home runs, while drawing 11 walks to boost her on-base percentage to a stellar .488.
Consistency has been a hallmark of Jones' season, as she has recorded at least one hit in 11 of her last 14 games, including seven multi-hit performances during that stretch. Her dominance at the plate was on full display during a five-game span in mid-March when she went a scorching 10-for-14, earning CACC Player of the Week honors on March 23.
Jones is putting the finishing touches on a remarkable UB career. Already a three-time All-Conference selection and five-time All-Region honoree, she boasts more than 150 career RBIs and nearly 200 hits, all while maintaining a sensational .408 career batting average.
Jones and rest of UB's softball team will return to action on Thursday with a home doubleheader against Saint Anselm (2 p.m.).
