Mya Jones Named UB Softball's First NFCA All-American Since 1993
Delaware native selected to the third team after one of the best seasons and careers in program history.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - Continuing a well-deserved offseason of awards and accolades, University of Bridgeport softball senior Mya Jones earned her most prestigious honor yet on Wednesday. The Delaware native was selected as a Third Team All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), becoming UB's first NFCA All-American since Cathleen Meaden and Marianne Maier earned the distinction in 1993.
Jones turned in one of the most remarkable seasons in UB softball history in 2026, solidifying herself as one of the premier players in the East Region and the centerpiece of a Purple Knights squad that captured their first-ever CACC Championship and reached the NCAA East Regional for a third straight season.
The Delaware native earned 2026 CACC Player of the Year honors following a dominant campaign in which she was also selected to the NFCA and D2CCA All-Region First Teams, named to the CACC All-Conference First Team and earned a spot on the CACC All-Tournament Team. Jones was additionally recognized twice as the CACC Player of the Week and landed on the NFCA National Player of the Year Watchlist.
Jones led the Purple Knights offensively throughout the year, batting .434 while pacing the team in hits (59), slugging percentage (.669) and on-base percentage (.513), the latter of which ranked first in the entire CACC. She also finished second in the conference in batting average and OPS (1.182) while adding 36 RBIs, 11 doubles and seven home runs. Her production reached another level during conference play, as she topped the CACC with a sensational .532 batting average, .851 slugging percentage, .566 on-base percentage and 1.417 OPS against league opponents. Consistency remained a hallmark of Jones' season as she recorded 18 multi-hit contests and repeatedly delivered in the biggest moments.
Jones elevated her play during the postseason and helped power Bridgeport to its historic CACC title run. She batted .467 with a .579 on-base percentage and .733 slugging percentage during UB's five victories in the CACC Tournament, highlighted by a massive 4-for-4 performance with a solo home run in the championship game victory over top-seeded Caldwell. She also homered in UB's NCAA East Regional matchup against SNHU, fittingly closing out her collegiate career on another memorable note.
Throughout the spring, Jones notched numerous standout performances, including a 5-for-7 effort in a doubleheader at Mercy on March 31, a 6-for-8 showing with four RBIs against Chestnut Hill on April 18 and a 4-for-7, four-RBI performance at Wilmington on April 24.
Jones concludes her illustrious career as one of the most decorated players in program history, finishing with a .415 career batting average alongside 223 hits, 170 RBIs and a .476 career on-base percentage.
