Dawn Stearns is entering into her tenth season at the helm of the University of Bridgeport softball program. In 2018, Stearns led the team to their most wins in her tenure and saw the Purple Knights grab a spot in the ECC playoffs for the second time in the past three years. With a 25-25 overall record, the UB softball program grabbed over 20 wins for the second consecutive season. Stearns has now won 150 games in her career at Bridgeport.
UB softball is also once again a leader in academics throughout all of NCAA softball. With a 3.713 GPA, Bridgeport was third in the Nation for highest GPA for the fourth consecutive year last season. Her philosophy of a great balance of high academic and great athletics performance has proven to be a success for the Bridgeport Softball program.
In 2018, UB softball had four All-ECC players along with two All-East Regions selections.
With almost the entire team returning for the 2019 season, coach Stearns is confident this season will be a true success again on and off the field.
Stearns came to UB from Mitchell College in 2009, where she served as assistant coach and before that was assistant head coach at Daniel Hand High School in Madison, Conn. Along with her collegiate and high school experience, Stearns has led teams from Shoreline Sting and Outlaws programs since 2003.
Dawn is a graduate of Gettysburg College with a BA in Business and Economics. Stearns was a four-year starting catcher and All-Mid Atlantic Conference selection, who still holds the defensive record at Gettysburg with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.
