Bridgeport, Conn.- The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team lost a hard-fought East Coast Conference contest against the NYIT Bears 68-60 on Saturday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. The Purple Knights are now 8-11 on the season and 4-5 in conference play. The Bears move to 16-3 on the season and 8-1 in the ECC.
Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led the Purple Knights her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Vonleh also had five blocks on the afternoon. Freshman Jaeonna Sutton (Brooklyn, N.Y.) came off the bench for UB contributing 12 points. She was four-for-five from the free throw line and contributed three steals on defense. Rounding the out double-digit scorers for UB was junior Kayla Hill (Massapequa, N.Y.) with 10 points.
UB looks to break a four-game losing streak as they travel to our nation's capital, the University of the District of Columbia for another conference matchup on Wednesday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
