UB Women Open Western New York Swing With 65-49 Loss At Roberts Wesleyan On Friday Night

Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team fell to the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks, 65-49, on Friday night in Rochester, N.Y.  With Friday's loss, UB is now 12-15 overall and 8-9 in the East Coast Conference.  The defeat also locks the Purple Knights into the number six seed in next week's ECC Championship Tournament, and they will play at number three seed NYIT on Wednesday night on Long Island.  RWC moves to 13-14 overall and 9-8 in the ECC.

Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) picked up her twelfth double-double of the season to lead Bridgeport with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Vonleh, who surpassed the 1,000 combined career point mark earlier this season after playing one season at St. Anselm and three years at Bridgeport, is now just 13 points shy of scoring 1,000 points in a Bridgeport uniform only. Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was second in scoring for UB with nine points.

Roberts Wesleyan was led by Tashayla Sutorus who netted 22 points off the Redhawks bench.

Up next, the UB women's basketball team will wrap up the 2018-19 regular season and close out its Western New York trip at Daemen College on Sunday.  Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in Amherst, New York.
