Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team closed out its 2018-19 regular season with a 68-49 loss at Daemen College on Sunday afternoon in Western New York. UB is now 12-16 overall and 8-10 in the East Coast Conference. Daemen ups its season mark to 18-9, and the Wildcats are now 15-3 in the ECC.
UB trailed by only one, 15-14, after the first quarter, but the host team outscored the Purple Knights, 20-8, in the second stanza, to grab a 35-22 halftime advantage from they never looked back.
Senior Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass.) led Bridgeport with 14 points on the day to push her over the 1,000-point mark for her three seasons at UB. Vonleh also led the Purple Knights on the glass with seven boards, plus she blocked six shots. Briana Stoddart (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also reached double-digit scoring on Sunday with 10 points.
Erin Egan led Daemen with 17 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will open play in the 2019 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament with a quarterfinal tilt at NYIT on Wednesday night. Game time on Long Island is slated for 7:30 p.m.
