Women's Basketball Edged at Post, 55-52
Purple Knights move record to 1-1 in the CACC this season.
WATERBURY, Conn. – Playing on the road for the first time in conference play, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team dropped a 55-52 contest at Post University on Saturday. The tight loss shifts the Purple Knights' record to 1-1 in the CACC this season.
Despite the loss, UB showed terrific fight after falling down by 14 points in the second half. In fact, the Purple Knights rattled off a 20-4 run to take a 49-47 lead with 5:04 remaining in the fourth quarter. They then led 50-49 with 2:29 left on the clock.
From there, Post closed the game on a 6-2 spurt. Three straight turnovers for UB after going down 51-50 proved to be the final death knell for the visitors.
Individually, Ana Gascon led the way for the Purple Knights. The Spanish guard finished the game with 16 points, eight rebounds and two assists—all of which served as team highs.
Niyah Whitten helped out with nine points while a trio of Purple Knights (Shakira Hester, Zahkiyyah Frazier, Harmony Earth-Wiley) each chipped in six.
The Purple Knights did not make a three-pointer in the contest. They finished 0-for-8 from long range while making 64-percent (23-of-27) of their two-point attempts.
Turnovers told a big part of the story on Saturday. The Purple Knights totaled a season-high 37 of them, allowing Post to score 31 points off those giveaways.
Bridgeport did well on the boards against the Eagles, recording a 38-29 advantage.
