Purple Knights erase deficit with 19-6 fourth quarter.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Catapulted by a dominant fourth quarter, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team posted a 63-53 win at Roberts Wesleyan on Saturday to open the 2025-26 season. The Purple Knights begin their year with a victory for the first time since 2022.
Trailing 47-44 entering the final period, the Purple Knights erupted with a 19-6 closing frame. UB, which opened the fourth on a 10-0 run, limited the Redhawks to just 3-of-17 shooting across the final 10 minutes.
Senior Karolina Andersson was sensational in her Bridgeport debut, finishing the afternoon with 13 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. She also added a block and a steal in a team-high 34 minutes.
Sophomore Zahkiyyah Frazier delivered a double-double of her own courtesy of 11 points and 10 rebounds. She finished a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
Frazier was part of a UB bench that outscored Roberts Wesleyan's bench, 38-18.
Fellow sophomores, Savannah Prescott and Mireya Johnson, were also terrific as reserves, each putting in 10 points. Prescott chipped in a team-high four steals as well.
UB's defense overwhelmed the Redhawks down the stretch, holding them without a field goal for more than seven minutes and forcing 19 turnovers overall—turnovers that shifted into 25 Purple Knight points.
After shooting just 36% from the floor through three quarters, Bridgeport caught fire at the right time. UB knocked in 7 of its 11 attempts in the fourth quarter, including a 3-for-4 effort from long range.
