Women's Basketball Win Streak Halted by Caldwell, 63-52
Purple Knights have three-game winning streak snapped.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing a second home CACC contest across a four-day span, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team endured a 63-52 defeat to Caldwell on Tuesday inside Hubbell Gym. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak for the Purple Knights while shifting their record to 6-4 overall this season (4-2, CACC).
Sophomore point guard Savannah Prescott led the way offensively for Bridgeport, finishing with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-13 shooting while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line.
Prescott has now reached double figures for the seventh time this season and continued her strong defensive play by tallying three steals for the fourth consecutive game.
Prescott serves as UB's leading scorer this season at 11.9 points per contest. She also pilots Bridgeport in steals per game (2.7), a mark that ranks seventh in the CACC this season.
Inside, Zahkiyyah Frazier provided a steady presence on the glass, pulling down nine rebounds to mark her seventh game this season with at least nine boards. She also added eight points on 3-of-6 shooting from the floor.
Frazier is now ranked third in the CACC in rebounds per game this season at 9.5.
UB received additional contributions from Nicole Benini (five points, seven rebounds), Niyah Whitten (eight points), Mireya Johnson (seven points), and India Lee (seven points) while the Purple Knights held Caldwell to 36.9 percent shooting from the field.
However, a 46-35 rebounding edge for the visitors and 19 second-chance points proved to be the difference as UB was unable to complete a comeback.
Following a 25-14 opening quarter, UB and Caldwell played to an even 38-38 over the final 30 minutes of regulation.
