Women's Basketball Downed by Dominican at Home
Purple Knights unable to overcome early deficit despite outscoring Chargers 23-10 in the 4th quarter.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team (9-13, 7-10 CACC) mounted a fourth-quarter push on Tuesday night, but an early deficit proved too much to overcome in a 54-46 setback to Dominican at Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
After falling behind 27-13 at halftime and trailing by as many as 20 points in the third quarter, the Purple Knights responded with a 23-point fourth period to make things interesting down the stretch.
Sophomore Savannah Prescott paced UB with a team-high 12 points while also dishing out four assists and collecting three steals.
Prescott, who leads Bridgeport in scoring (11.0 ppg) this season, has reached double figures in 16 games.
Another sophomore, Zahkiyyah Frazier, added 10 points and a team-best 11 rebounds to secure her sixth double-double of the season, battling inside all night for the Purple Knights.
Laia Albas provided a spark in the final quarter, finishing with 10 points, including three three-pointers, while Isabella Edwards contributed six points and six rebounds, ranking second on the team on the glass.
Despite forcing 24 Dominican turnovers and holding the Chargers to just 11 points in the fourth quarter, Bridgeport was unable to fully erase the gap created over the first three periods.
