Three Purple Knights Earn Weekly Corvais ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards
Sasha Tsikhanovich, Brianna Comport and Kimberly Stewart Receive Weekly Conference Accolades
Danbury, Conn.-For the first time this season, three University of Bridgeport women's gymnasts have earned weekly Corvais ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Awards for their outstanding performances in last Saturday's quad meet victory for the Purple Knights at Yale University. For the second straight week, UB Sasha Tsikhanovich (Marysville, Ohio) has been selected as the ECAC Division II Gymnast of the Week after sharing last week's award. For the second time this season, sophomore Brianna Comport (Gilbertsville, Pa.) was named ECAC Division II Women's Gymnastics Specialist of the Week, and classmate Kimberly Stewart (Eastham, Mass.) is a co-recipient of this week's Coaches Choice Award along with Selena Swanger of West Chester.
Tsikhanovich captured the all-around to earn three first place finishes at the first annual Don Tonry Memorial meet hosted by Yale last Saturday. The senior placed first on beam (9.9), floor (9.85) and all-around (38.9). Tsikhanovich is currently ranked 13th in the country and first in the ECAC, amongst all divisions.
Comport placed second on both beam and floor exercise last week. The sophomore specialist scored 9.8 on both events and was second behind one of the Northeast's top competitors and teammate, Sasha Tsikhanovich.
Stewart scored a 9.9 for one of the best vaults of her career, sticking the vault under pressure to help set their highest team score of the season. The sophomore from Cape Cod took first in the event, which also marked a personal-best, while also helping the Purple Knights achieve their highest vault total of 48.45.
This week, the Bridgeport women's gymnastics team is in action in a four-team meet in Pennsylvania on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
