Kenney and Staruk of UB Gymnastics Earn GEC Weekly Awards

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Following masterful performances in a quad meet win on Saturday night, senior Abby Kenney and junior Nova Staruk earned Gymnastics East Conference (GEC) weekly awards on Wednesday. Kenney picks up her fourth career GEC Gymnast of the Week honor while Staruk is the Specialist of the Week for the second time in her career.
Kenney and Staruk were at the forefront of a UB squad that defeated Brown, LIU and Springfield on Saturday and tallied their highest team score (194.050) since March 2024.
Kenney delivered a terrific all-around performance, claiming the title with a score of 39.150 while finishing top-five in all four events. She led the field on bars, posting a winning score of 9.775. Kenney also showcased her consistency on vault, tying for second with a mark of 9.775. She capped off her day on floor by again tying for second, this time with an impressive 9.825.
Staruk turned in another standout performance, highlighted by a first-place finish on vault with a score of 9.850, which was tied for the highest mark recorded on any event during the meet. She also impressed on floor, tying for second with a 9.825. Staruk has been a model of consistency on vault this season, placing inside the top three in all three of Bridgeport's meets.
Kenney, Staruk and the rest of UB's gymnastics team will return to action on Sunday (Feb. 1) with a dual meet at Penn (2 p.m.).
