Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team ran its winning streak to six games in a row on Saturday with a 17-6 against East Coast Conference triumph over the host St Thomas Aquinas College Spartans. With the victory, the Purple Knights move to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.  STAC is now 5-6 overall 1-3 in the ECC.

After falling behind 2-0 early in the contest, the Purple Knights netted their first goal of the day from a nice drive up top from sophomore Shyla Murray (Brentwood, N.Y.), and UB never looked back.  The winners went on a 16-0 run before the Spartans scored again in the second half.

Bridgeport had another balanced offensive game with five players having multiple goal game.  Leading the Purple Knights was freshman Danielle Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) with five goals. Three players had hat tricks on Saturday, as Murray, senior Courtney Forry (Reinholds, Pa.) plus junior Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.) scored three times.  Also adding goals were freshman Megan Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.) with two and sophomore Julia Ruscio (St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada) with one.

Along with her three goals, Courtney Forry dished out five assists to give her an eight point day which puts her atop the University of Bridgeport record book for career points, as she now has a total of 198 points which surpasses Gabriella Valela's mark of 193 points in her four seasons at UB.

The Bridgeport defense held tight on Saturday allowing just two goals in the first half that came very early in the game and holding the Spartans to only six goals total.  Excellent contributions to Saturday's win on defense were made by senior Geovanna Ferreira (Danbury, Conn.), juniors Carina Mitchell (Gales Ferry, Conn.) Anneliese Jennings (Warminster, Pa) plus sophomore Giselle Hall (Fairport, N.Y.)

Junior Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) played all sixty minutes recording eight saves to notch her sixth win of 2019.
