UB Women's Lacrosse Checks In At Number Six In Preseason CACC Coaches' Rankings

New Haven, Conn.-Five-time reigning champion Georgian Court University on Friday was tabbed first in the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Lacrosse Preseason Coaches Poll, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. The Lions earned 104 points in the voting and five first-place votes, as the league's 11 head coaches in the sport conducted the voting.

GCU claimed a thrilling 17-16 victory over Dominican University in the 2022 CACC Championship Final to hoist the league crown for the fifth time in a row. The Chargers, who featured a roster of nearly all true freshmen or redshirt freshmen last spring, was second in this year's preseason poll with 102 points and six first-place nods. Thomas Jefferson University, which has long been a stalwart in the league, was third in the 2023 poll with 92 points.

The 2023 CACC Women's Lacrosse regular season gets underway the weekend of Feb. 17-19, with several teams in action including GCU in the opener on Friday the 17th with a contest versus Roberts Wesleyan. Jefferson, Wilmington University and Felician University are also in action that weekend. The regular season will be a buildup to the 2023 conference championship tournament, which will be held on May 2, 6-7, with the semifinals and final on the the 6th and 7th at Post University in Waterbury, Conn.

The top-six teams in the standings following the regular season will earn a spot in the CACC tournament, with the top-two seeds earning a bye into the semis. The first round on May 2 will feature the fifth seed at the fourth seed, and the sixth seed at the third seed. The two first-round winners will advance to championship weekend. 

Also of note this season is the addition of the University of Bridgeport, as the Purple Knights will be taking part in their first campaign of women's lacrosse in the CACC. UB was tabbed sixth in the 2023 preseason poll with 63 points.
