Bridgeport Tabs Impronto to Lead Men's and Women's Rowing Programs
Comes to UB from Wesleyan, serving the past three years as Cardinals' Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Jack Impronto as the new Head Coach of the Purple Knights' men's and women's rowing programs, as announced by Director of Athletics Anthony Vitti on Wednesday.
Impronto arrives at UB with a strong background in collegiate and developmental rowing, as well as extensive experience in athlete recruitment, program development and coaching. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the men's rowing program at Wesleyan University since August of 2023.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jack Impronto to UB as the head coach of our men's and women's rowing programs," said Vitti. "As we continue to grow and strengthen our athletics department, finding the right leader to build our rowing program was a top priority. Jack's passion for the sport, commitment to student-athlete development, and vision for creating a culture of excellence make him an outstanding fit for our university. We are confident that his leadership will help establish a strong foundation for sustained success, both on the water and in the classroom, and we look forward to the impact he will have on our student-athletes and the Purple Knights community."
During Impronto's three years at Wesleyan, he coached the Cardinals' Third and Fourth Varsity Eights while playing a key role in recruiting, race-day operations and fundraising efforts.
During the 2024-25 season, Wesleyan's Third Varsity Eight completed an undefeated campaign while capturing both the Little Three Championship and the National Invitational Rowing Championship. The Cardinals' coaching staff was recognized as a finalist for the Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division III Staff of the Year Award in both 2024 and 2025.
"I am incredibly honored and excited to be the head coach of the men's and women's rowing teams here at UB," said Impronto. "The opportunity to build these programs from the ground up is truly special, and I'm eager to begin working with our student-athletes, campus community and supporters. I'm grateful for the opportunity and can't wait to get on the water this fall!"
In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Impronto has worked extensively with USRowing's athlete development pipeline. He currently serves as lead rowing coach for the USRowing Pathways Development Camp and previously spent three summers as an assistant coach with the organization's Olympic Development Program. In those roles, he helped oversee daily training sessions, organized practice plans and worked with some of the nation's top developing rowers.
Impronto also previously served as head coach at Glastonbury High School, where he directed all aspects of the program, managed coaching staff and implemented long-term development strategies.
A Connecticut native, Impronto earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Trinity College in 2022, where he graduated with Faculty Honors. He also completed a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Science from Wesleyan this past May.
