Women's Soccer Picked To Take Second Place In 2011 ECC Preseason Poll
Senior Katie Stanley Named 2011 ECC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year
Central Islip, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team has been picked to finish in second place in the 2011 East Coast Conference race in a preseason vote of league coaches that was released late on Monday. The Purple Knights tallied 55 points in the voting and received four first place votes, but were edged out by one point for the top spot by 2010 ECC champion C.W. Post. Queens (N.Y.) College with 42 points and Dowling College with 41 points round out the ECC's predicted top-four finishers.
Senior Katie Stanley (Oxon, England) has been named the 2011 Preseason East Coast Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year. A First Team All-ECC and All-Region selection in 2010, Stanley scored eight goals and had five assists for a total of 21 points last season.
The UB women's soccer program will be looking to earn its fifth consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament this season. Last season, Bridgeport posted a 14-4-2 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Purple Knights, under the direction of 13th year head coach Magnus Nilerud, will open their 2011 campaign at home on Friday night, September 2 when they host American International College as part of the 2011 University of Bridgeport Women's Soccer Classic.
