UB Women's Soccer Stays At National Number One For Fourth Straight Week
Both Bridgeport Soccer Teams Now In NSCAA Regional Rankings
Bridgeport, Conn.-For the fourth consecutive week, the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team is ranked number one in the country in the national NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Poll released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Tuesday afternoon. The Purple Knights, who are currently 12-0-0 on the season, hold on to the number one spot in the East Regional rankings for the sixth consecutive week. Exactly one month ago (September 27, 2011) marked the first time in history that the UB women's soccer program has reached the number one spot in the NSCAA national Top-25.
In the NSCAA national Top-25, the UB women have steadily risen throughout the season from number 17 in week one, to number seven in week two, to the number five slot in week three, to number one the last four weeks.
This week, head coach Magnus Nilerud's team plays it final regular season home game against Wilmington (Del.) University on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. and travels to St. Thomas Aquinas College for an East Coast Conference contest on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. With a win a STAC, the Purple Knights would clinch the top seed and the 2011 ECC Championship Tournament that is slated to begin on Thursday, November 3rd.
In men's soccer, head coach Brian Quinn's team has returned to the NSCAA Regional Top-10 after a four-week absence at number 10 in the East. The UB men host Felician at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and travel to St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday.
