Three Purple Knights Honored With Weekly ECC Awards
Ying Shen From Volleyball, Augustin Prados Form Men's Soccer And Chelsea Green From Women's Soccer Recognized For Their Outstanding Play
Central Islip. N.Y.-Three University of Bridgeport student-athletes have been recognized by the East Coast Conference for their outstanding performance in contests that took place from September 24 through 30, 2012. Sophomore Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) has been selected as the ECC's Volleyball Player of the Week. Freshman Augustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) has been named East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Chelsea Green (Monmouthshire, Wales) earned ECC Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week accolades. This is the second time this season that Shen and Pradoas have been honored with East Coast Conference weekly awards.
Volleyball's Shen helped the Purple Knights go 3-0 as she averaged 3.25 kills/set with a .348 attack percentage and 3.00 digs/set. On offense, Ying had a total of 39 kills on 92 attacks with only seven errors notching double-digit kills in all three matches She also had two double-doubles with 13 kills and 18 digs at Stonehill and 15 kills and 12 digs versus Franklin Pierce. Shen also had seven block assists, three service aces and two assists on the week.
Men's Soccer's Prados backstopped the University of Bridgeport to a pair of ECC wins last week topping Queens, 2-1, and blanking Molloy, 3-0. Augustin made seven saves on the week and recorded a 0.50 goals against average in the two wins. The shutout versus Molloy was his third clean sheet of the year.
Women's Soccer's Green was outstanding last week, assisting on her team's game-winning goal in overtime in a 1-0 win over Philadelphia U. and helping to anchor the defense in that game plus a 2-1 win over Molloy on Saturday. The Bridgeport defense allowed a total of 12 shots in last week's two matches.
