Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team will open play in the 2015 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament at Knights Field tomorrow afternoon, Thursday, November 4 at 3:00 p.m. when they host the Mercy College Mavericks. UB is the top seed in the tournament winning the ECC regular season title with an 8-0-1 conference mark. Bridgeport is 16-1-1 overall, and the Purple Knights top the NCAA Division II East Regional Rankings and are ranked number seven in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Mercy is the number four seed in the ECC Championship, and the Mavericks are 8-5-2 overall and finished at 6-3-0 in conference play. The winner of the UB/Mercy match will face the winner of number two seed Roberts Wesleyan against number three seed LIU Post on Saturday at the highest remaining seed for the 2015 East Coast Conference crown. The winner of the 2015 ECC Championship Tournament will receive an automatic bid the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament which will begin the following weekend.
Bridgeport won this year's regular season meeting with Mercy, 2-0, on September 30 in the Park City. Last season, Mercy defeated UB three times including a 1-0 win in the ECC Final and a 2-1 win the Second Round of the NCAA Championship. In 2013, the Purple Knights beat the Mavericks 1-0 in the ECC Championship Final at Knights Field and 2-1 in Bridgeport during the regular season.
