Jack Abelson Selected As UB Women's Soccer Program's Top Assistant Coach

Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport head women's soccer coach Magnus Nilerud, who will enter season number 20 on the Purple Knights' sideline in the Fall of 2018, has announced the hiring of Jack Abelson as the UB women's soccer program's first assistant coach replacing Scott McBride, who after a 14 years in Seaside Park moved up Park Avenue to Sacred Heart University. Coach Abelson comes to UB from the Harvard University women's soccer program where he served the Crimson for two seasons. He has also has been involved for five seasons with the  Boston Breakers front office staff in their youth programs as well as their former NWSL pro team.

Stated head coach Nilerud, "Jack's knowledge of the game, innovative thinking and connections with clubs throughout the country will be a tremendous asset for the UBWS program moving forward. He has worked with youth, college and pro players and will be integral in helping to put the UB women's soccer program back on the national map."

A graduate of University of Birmingham, England, Jack holds a BSc Hons degree in Sports and Exercise Science. During his time at University (2010-2013) Jack also coached in community programs for English Premier League team Aston Villa Football Club enhancing his knowledge of the game.
