UB Volleyball Sweeps Weekly Conference Awards
Tamara Leite And Biljana Savic Earn Weekly ECC Honors
Central Islip, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team has swept this week's East Coast Conference awards, as senior setter Tamara Leite (Natal, Brazil) was named ECC Player of the Week, and freshman outside hitter Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) was selected as the ECC Rookie of the Week. This is the second straight week that Savic has been selected as the conference rookie of the week and the third time so far in 2011.
Tamara notched a double-double in all three matches with assists and digs last week, as she helped UB go a perfect 3-0 defeating Stonehill, NYIT and Caldwell. Tamara averaged 38.7 assist and 13.3 digs per match and 9.7 assists/set and 3.3 digs/set. She also added six total kills, four block assists and one service ace on the week. On the season, she is averaging 9.8 assists/set and 2.9 digs/set.
Savic helped Bridgeport go 3-0 last week by averaging 3.33 kills/set and recording double figures kills in all three outings. She also contributed two assists, five service aces and four block assists on the week. Biljana leads the Purple Knights with 108 total kills (3.9 kills/set) and an attack percentage of .236.
This week, the Bridgeport volleyball team plays to road conference matches at Molloy on Tuesday and at Mercy on Thursday.
