Freshman Sofija Markovic Named ECC Volleyball Rookie Of The Week
Helped UB Go A Perfect 2-0 Last Week
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport freshman volleyball player Sofija Markovic (Belgrade, Serbia) has been selected as the East Coast Conference's Rookie of the Week for her fine play in two matches for the Purple Knights from October 15 through October 21, 2012.
Markovic helped UB go a perfect 2-0 last week averaging 1.33 kills/set and 1.67 blocks/set in wins over Dowling and Roberts Wesleyan. In a 3-0 sweep of Dowling, she had four block assists, and in a four-set triumph over Roberts Wesleyan, Sofija had eight kills and six block assists. In the win over RWC, she had an impressive .400 attack percentage.
This week, the UB volleyball team is busy hosting Southern Connecticut State on Tuesday and Queens (N.Y.) on Saturday and traveling to NYIT for a big ECC contest on Thursday night.
