Purple Knights Claim ECC Regular Season Volleyball Crown With Sweep Of LIU Post

Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2013 East Coast Conference regular season title and the right to host next week's ECC Championship Tournament which will be played on November 22 and 23 with a convincing 3-0 (25-19, 25-13, 25-12) win over the visiting Pioneers of LIU Post.  The Purple Knights, who are now 17-2 overall and 13-1 in conference play so far this season, have now won 11 straight matches and 15 of their last 16 contests.  LIU Post is now 22-8 overall and 11-5 in the ECC.

Sophomore Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) led a balanced Bridgeport offensive attack with 10 kills and a .391 attack percentage.  Junior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) had seven kills a .462 attack percentage.  Juniors Ying Shen (Nanjing, China) and Biljana Savic (Novi Sad, Serbia) each had six kills for the winners.  Savic also chipped in 14 assists and eight digs for the winners.

Senior setter Fernanda Silva (Brasilia, Brazil) directed the UB offense with 17 assists, and she also contributed eight digs.

Sophomore libero Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) led the Bridgeport defense with 12 digs.

The Purple Knights will look to run the winning streak 12 on Thursday night when they travel to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. for an ECC match with Mercy College.  First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
