Three Purple Knights Earn Weekly ECC Honors
Volleyball's Sarah Rosa And Giovana Soares Plus Men's Soccer's Agustin Prados Recognized For Their Outstanding Play Last Week
Central Islip, N.Y.-Three University of Bridgeport student-athletes have been recognized by the East Coast Conference for their outstanding play in matches held from September 8 through 14, 2014 with Player of the Week honors.
Two members of the UB women's volleyball team were recognized, as junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) was selected as the ECC Player of the week, and teammate Giovana Soares (Grad. Student, Sao Paulo, Brazil) was named ECC Setter of the Week.
From the men's soccer team, senior Agustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) earned ECC Defensive Player of the Week accolades.
Rosa continued her strong early season play in helping UB to a pair of straight sets wins last week, averaging 4.50 kills/set with a .408 attack percentage. In a 3-0 win over Franklin Pierce, Sarah had a match-high 17 kills, and in a 3-0 win over Southern Connecticut, she added 10 kills, five service aces and nine digs. On the week, she had 27 total kills in the two matches with seven service aces, 15 total digs and five blocks.
Soares helped direct the UB offense to a pair of 3-0 sweeps last week averaging 8.17 assists/set. Giovana had a double-ouble in each of the victories with 36 assists and 11 digs against Franklin Pierce and 13 assists and 14 digs versus Southern Connecticut State. She also had six kills and a .429 attack percentage on the week. Soares helped the Purple Knights boast a .317 hitting percentage in last week's two wins.
Prados was outstanding anchoring the UB defense last week as he registered his first shutout of 2014 and made 15 total saves in two matches. In Bridgeport's 2-0 win over Bloomfield on Thursday, Agustin made six saves to record the clean sheet. In a 2-1 loss to Merrimack on Saturday, he was simply brilliant facing heavy pressure all match long making nine saves to keep the Purple Knights in the contest despite being outshot 21-5.
