Purple Knights Rally To Notch 3-2 ECC Road Volleyball Victory Over LIU Post

Brookville, N.Y.-Trailing two sets to one, the University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team rallied to win sets four and five and post a hard-fought, 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-15, 16-14), East Coast Conference road win over the host LIU Post Pioneers on Tuesday night.  The victory keeps the Purple Knights unbeaten in conference play at 14-0.  UB is now 19-2 overall, and the team has won seven consecutive matches and 16 of their last 17 outings.  LIU Post is now 15-12 overall and 9-5 in the ECC.

After alternating wins in the first four sets, the Purple Knights jumped out to a quick 6-1 in the fifth and deciding set, only to see the host Pioneers come back to take a 14-12 lead.  With the hosts holding two match points, Bridgeport head coach Gary Mullin called his final timeout of the fifth set, and his team responded with four straight points to complete the comeback and take set number five, 16-14.

UB's Biljana Savic (Grad. Student, Novi Sad, Serbia) had a triple-double for the winners on Tuesday with a match-high 34 assists, 12 kills and 11 digs, plus for good measure, she also had five service aces.

Junior Sarah Rosa (Itajuba, Brazil) had a double-double for Bridgeport as she led all players in the match in kills with 16 and digs with 17. Rosa also chipped in five total blocks.

Teammate Ying Shen (Sr., Nanjing, China) recorded her own double-double for the Purple Knights with 13 kills and 14 digs.

Senior Larissa Oliveira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) has strong at the net on Tuesday with six kills and five total blocks for UB.

Junior libero Martina Santia (Sezze, Italy) was steady on defense for Bridgeport registering 14 digs.

Up next for the UB women's volleyball team is a Senior Night home match versus Mercy College.  Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m., and the six seniors on this year's squad will be honored before action begins.
