SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Facing a pair of NE10 foes to begin a busy road weekend, the University of Bridgeport's volleyball team earned wins over Saint Michael's (3-1) and SNHU (3-0) on Friday. The two victories, which were played at AIC, improve the Purple Knights' record to 8-4 this season.
MATCH No. 1 - Bridgeport 3, Saint Michael's 1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 25-20)
In a rare battle of Purple Knights, it was UB that prevailed. Bridgeport was led by a balanced attack and a season-high in digs (88).
Jaden Drollinger was sensational in the opener. The senior put together totals of 38 assists, six kills (season high) and 17 digs. Drollinger also hammered three aces.
Hailey Jessen led UB in kills (12) against Saint Michael's while Paola Hernandez and Grace Presswood tallied 10 put-aways apiece.
Incidentally, Presswood and Hernandez also matched in the digs department with 11.
Lucia Tomiello led the Purple Knights in hitting percentage at .318, making just one error with eight kills. Tomiello currently ranks third in the CACC in that category (.347).
The Purple Knights finished the match with 10 total aces to signify their fourth straight match in double figures. Four different players hit multiple aces in the contest.
MATCH No. 2 – Bridgeport 3, SNHU 0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-19)
Continuing the momentum of their four-set win over Saint Michael's, UB posted a sweep of SNHU in the nightcap.
Hernandez and Tomiello teamed up for another 12 kills apiece to lead the offense while Drollinger dished out another 35 assists.
Drollinger also tallied 11 digs and three kills. She is currently leading the CACC in both total assists (459) and assists per set (9.77) this season.
Hernandez, meanwhile, ranks second in the conference in kills per set (3.62).
Collectively, the Purple and White hit .238 in the win over the Penmen which is their fourth highest mark this season.
