Bio

Peter Del Gallo was named Bridgeport’s first-ever women’s wrestling head coach on Oct. 24, 2024. The Purple Knights completed their first season of competition in 2025-26.

UB’s debut campaign featured the Purple Knights hosting the first competitions in program history at both the Wheeler Recreation Center and Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium while also securing their first-ever dual-meet victory with a win over Maine Maritime Academy on January 16, 2026.

Individually, sophomore Lindsey Rywolt emerged as one of the top wrestlers in the region. Ranked nationally throughout the season, Rywolt placed third at the regional championships to earn a berth into the NCAA’s first-ever Women’s Wrestling Championship in Coralville, Iowa.

Her standout performance helped UB to a ninth-place finish at its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance. Freshmen Jelene Lainez and Jocelyn Sanchez also contributed, each recording multiple victories at the regional meet as the Purple Knights capped off a memorable first season in program history.

A two-time All-American with a remarkable 133-10 career record, Del Gallo brought a wealth of wrestling knowledge to UB from his successful career at the University of Southern Maine (USM), where he placed third at the 2019 NCAA Championships. He was also named to the NEWA and Pilgrim Wrestling League All-Star teams and ranked No. 1 nationally in the 125-pound weight class for most of his junior season.

After his impressive collegiate wrestling career, Del Gallo joined USM as an assistant coach, where he helped develop the university's first freshman NCAA Division III All-American. Since then, he has been an assistant coach at the Southside Wrestling Club in Bridgeport and served as the associate head coach for men's and women's freestyle. He also worked as an assistant wrestling coach at Staples High School in Westport, CT during the 2023-24 season.
