Women's Wrestling Trio Remain Alive After Day One of NCAA Regionals

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Three members of University of Bridgeport's women's wrestling team remain in contention after the opening day of the NCAA Regionals on Saturday in Elmira, N.Y. The Purple Knights trio will return to the mat for Day Two competition on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m., looking to continue their postseason runs.

Lindsey Rywolt led the way at 131 pounds, posting a 3-1 record to advance to Sunday's third-place bout, where a victory would secure her a berth into the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Rywolt earned all three of her wins by pin, bouncing back from a semifinal setback in the main bracket with a clutch triumph in the consolation semifinals.

At 160 pounds, Jelene Lainez showed resilience after dropping her opening match, responding with consecutive victories to punch her ticket to the fifth-place contest.

Jocelyn Sanchez followed a similar path at 103 pounds, rebounding from a first-round loss with back-to-back wins to also earn a spot in Sunday's fifth-place matchup.
