Rywolt Sees Incredible Year End at Inaugural NCAA Women’s Wrestling Championship
Earned opening-round win over No. 6 seed, ends season with 24-7 record.
CORALVILLE, Iowa – Sophomore Lindsey Rywolt of the University of Bridgeport women's wrestling team made history on Friday, earning an opening-round victory at the inaugural NCAA National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championship in Coralville, Iowa.
Competing as the No. 11 seed at 131 pounds, Rywolt delivered a dominant performance by pinning sixth-seeded Yele Aycock of North Central College— a two-time national runner-up — in just 49 seconds to advance to the national quarterfinals.
Rywolt was then defeated by No. 3 seed Alexis Janiak of Aurora University, the defending NCWWC national champion, via technical fall.
Rywolt's remarkable season ultimately came to a close later in the consolation bracket with a 9-2 decision against Makayla Paclib of Pitt–Johnstown.
Rywolt, who earned her NCAA berth courtesy of a third-place regional finish, wraps up her terrific year with a record of 24-7.
