ASTON, Pa. – Wrapping up a three-game conference series on the road, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Holy Family on Monday afternoon. UB dropped matchups of 7-2 and 5-4.
GAME ONE – Holy Family 7, Bridgeport 2
Luke Meister led UB's offense with a 2-for-3 effort and a walk while scoring UB's second run in the ninth on an RBI groundout by Vincenzo Della Porta. Meister trotted home after registering his first triple as a Purple Knight and seventh in his career.
Conor Lesczczynski scored UB's first run of the game after leading off the third inning with a double and then scoring on an RBI single from Tyler Pennisi.
As a team, Bridgeport finished with seven hits and drew five walks but were unable to overcome a four-run second inning from Holy Family.
Logan McGrath was a bright spot out of the bullpen, tossing 1.1 hitless, scoreless innings in relief to close out the game.
GAME TWO – Holy Family 5, Bridgeport 4
The Purple Knights built a 4-2 advantage with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by back-to-back triples from Ryan Baldwin and Patrick Krempasky, along with an RBI single from Della Porta.
Anthony Matturro also provided a spark earlier in the game, blasting his first home run of the season to put UB on the board.
Holy Family answered UB's three-run fifth with three runs of their own in the bottom half to reclaim the lead.
The Purple Knights finished with six hits in game two, with Krempasky leading the way (2-for-3) while recording his team-best third triple of the season.
Logan McGrath was strong out of the bullpen for UB, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.
